Attention Focusing
By Dr Stephanie BradstockWorrying can be an all-consuming pastime that fuels anxiety. Turning your attention elsewhere by focusing on alternative thoughts and tasks can make a massive difference to your thinking.
The time and energy devoted to ruminating over worries and focusing on physical symptoms can be a major factor in maintaining and prolonging anxiety. When you preferentially attend to anxious self-talk, and constantly monitor for nervousness or jitters, you can be too preoccupied to actually notice external information that may be reassuring, calming and evidence that you are not truly in danger.
