Big Belly, Bigger Disease Risk

Having a fat belly increases the risk for hardening of the arteries and so increases risk for heart attack and stroke.

Nearly 80 per cent of patients with type 2 diabetes and 70 per cent of people with cardiovascular disease are obese. Someone who is 40 per cent overweight is twice as likely to die prematurely as an average-weight person.
