Hypnosis: Power Over Pain?

The mysterious power of hypnosis has long fascinated many people and research suggests that it may have a practical place in mainstream medicine.

We all know stories about hypnotised people doing bizarre and amazing things, for example clucking like a chicken on cue, or recalling detailed memories that they would otherwise not be able to remember. But hypnotism also has a therapeutic side and it has been quietly gaining acceptance as a medical treatment to help people deal with various types of pain – and reduce their dependence on pain medication.
