By the time we've reached 65, rheumatologist  Professor Geoff McColl of the University of Melbourne estimates that half of us will have experienced the symptoms of joint surface degeneration. Degenerative joint disease, or osteoarthritis, is something many of us are going to become more familiar with as we age.
