Keep Watch For Fat Phobia

While anorexia and bulimia are the most well known eating disorders, other conditions can involve distorted body image, food obsessions and, ultimately, compromised health. Fat phobia is one of these.

Fat phobia is a common restrictive eating habit, especially among athletes. It involves severely restricting, or totally avoiding fat intake. This fear of fat results from notions that fat in foods leads to fat on the body and high fat diets are linked to diseases such as cancer and obesity. Although reducing total fat intake is generally recommended by most nutritionists, the complete restriction of fat in the diet is not advised.
