Quitting When You're Pregnant

Finding out she's pregnant is a momentous moment for any woman, but for smokers it can create a dilemma that can be difficult to solve.

In western countries, around one quarter of women smoke during their reproductive years. According to Kathryn Pollak, assistant research professor at the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, about half of women who smoke give up when they find out they are pregnant but this means that about 12 per cent of all babies born are at risk of the adverse health affects of tobacco.
