Salt: Is It Bad For Us?

One of the constants of life, particularly during our nine months in the womb, is salt. If we're used to swimming in the stuff, how can it be bad for us?

In the nine-months it takes us to undergo the miraculous transition from embryonic cells into a laughing, crying, thinking, feeling human being, one thing stays the same. All the while we swim about in our mother's amniotic fluid, the only environment we've ever known. It keeps us warm, cushions us from injury and provides us with something to drink. And what we drink, especially in those first vital weeks of development, has a salt concentration closely resembling that of sea water.
