Vitamin C May Reduce Gout Risk

Men with higher vitamin C intake appear less likely to develop gout, a painful type of arthritis.

What is gout?

Gout is a common and painful form of arthritis caused by the build-up of uric acid crystals in and around joints and characterised by inflammation, pain and swelling. Uric acid is one of the body’s normal waste products filtered by the kidneys and excreted in the urine but when the excretion doesn’t happen fast enough, uric acid levels accumulate and crystals begin to form.
