While doctors, family and friends can certainly help, ultimately it's up to you to take care of your heart health.

Learning you're at risk of heart disease can be devastating. And the prospect of having to take medication indefinitely can be daunting. Once the initial shock has worn off, however, motivation to stay focused on your heart health can flag. In fact, studies have shown that all too often, people who are diagnosed with heart disease (or increased risk for heart disease) stop their medications within months of starting them – putting themselves at risk of heart attack, stroke and other complications.
